In this paper, we investigate the relationships between the meanings of structures like Bill rolled the ball to the baby, and the semantic content of the motion verbs with the aim of explaining the above constellation of facts and in particular the accompanied-motion requirement. Developing arguments put forward in Folli and Harley (2002), we will argue that the availability of the causative form in (1)c is tightly related the presence of a secondary predicate allowing the projection of a SC and not to the telicity of the PP.
